Oh gawd. Sweetie, I did that. I wholeheartedly say go for it. So a relationship isn't for you, but that doesn't mean a lady doesn't need to get laid!

You have safety covered. You have your kids covered. To me, that's the mental health aspect. The rest is "taking care of business." I did it. And guys are sometimes a bit put off by the fact you aren't chasing after them like lovesick fools, but who cares. Sex is a biological craving. It releases endorphins, dopamine and seratonin. All things that help you feel good, reduce depression and anxiety.

Just blast Salt N Pepa's None of Your Business and smile :)

The trust stuff you wrote, it's like you took it from my head. I want to trust, I want people I can trust and who will love me warts and all. They will see me make mistakes or be imperfect and you know what? They won't care. They will love so much about me that that stuff doesn't matter and they will stay loyal and honest to me.

People who can mean exactly what they say to me, and not go and backstab me? Yah. I'm dreeeeeeeaaammmin'.

Lori, it may sometimes feel like everyone is backstabbing you or letting you down, but not everyone is. There will be new people around the corner who are exactly what you need in the moment, even if they're not long term friends.
Plus, you've got my number and pretty sure you owe me a few visits. Even if it's to whinge. I'm good at the whinging ;)

I got my first car in 1993, I can't remember the make. I paid $300 and bought it off a mechanic, which is strange as it never started, luckily I lived on a steep hill and tostart it I had to reverse in neutral then jump start it in gear down the hill. After a few weeks I went back to riding my bike!

Prehistoric Toyota Crown bought for three hundred and fifty big ones back in 1980 when i was 17. Didnt know how to drive a manual, so my 2 besties and I just kangaroo hopped out of the car yard and down the highway. It had the usual assorted goodie bag of faults but it gave me some of the best times in my younger years. ahh i miss Sue-Ellen....

My first car was a blue Vdub beetle chosen by my husband (I was a late bloomer when it came to driving). He didn't think the rust in the floor in front of the driver's seat was anything to worry about. After all, he wasn't driving it! I used to think I was going to be imitating Fred Flintstone every time I went over a bump, so I called her Wilma. The first time it stopped on the side of the road I got a terrible fright when I opened the hood to discover I didn't have an engine! OMG! Where's the engine? No wonder it stopped I thought. A kind passer-by helped me out and showed me where the engine is stored. How dumb did I feel? Wilma didn't last too much longer I'm afraid. I've always had a soft spot for her though.

Glad you found a reliable mechanic, a real blessing. I used to use KTAS when I lived closer to one. My current car (Mazda Astina) is now serviced by a home lube guy who has just discovered why it kept losing power and chug-a-lugging its way to work. Something that has stumped other mechanics. Chug-a-lugging is heart stopping in the middle of the night.

I hear your torment as you cope with overwhelming feelings of grief and loss (specifically loss of trust) When you are person of deep integrity this is one of the challenges life presents us with, the daily ongoing struggle of balancing vulnerability and openness with the potential to be exploited. All I can gently suggest, because it seems inappropriate to rave on at length here, that as an older woman who had her own particular struggles – and the one about balancing trust and protecting yourself is very familiar to me! – in life you will make mistakes and be hurt and sometimes you will make right decisions and become stronger. Resilience is the key and it comes from developing the things that make you stronger. Two things I know you do exceedingly well are writing (which gives you the meditative skills of focussing and breathing) and networking. I get the impression you are also a great Mum and a budding social activist. When times are tough try to spend as much time as you can doing the things that sustain you.

My very first car was a bright blue 1964 Volkswagon Beetle, that I totally adored.Given to me by my parents at a youthful 18. With it's cute manual indicators and the motor in the back many an adventure we had. As a somewhat reckless driver my weekends were spent; panel beating with bog, sandpaper and spray paint.

Good for you Lori!!! I can tell how proud you are! My philosophy has always been: There are some events in our lives that happen and they aren't good. Tony's death, my childhood filled with sexual abuse, my daughter going through chemotherapy after being adopted from foster care. These things suck. But they don't define our lives. Tony was an amazing man who was very much loved. Why judge his life based on his death? Just as I don't want anyone to base my life on the things that have happened to me. We are not one event in our lives. Congratulations to your family on this event.

When I was single, I would do whatever I wanted. I was not hung up about sex. One time I went to see these male dancers. This one dancer came up to talk to me after the show. He was the most sexy and beautiful man I have ever seen. He came home with me. I don't reget it. He was wonderful to look at and he wanted me. I never saw him again, but got a great memory.
