Emancipation.

***

It is said that women in some Native American tribes grow their hair long all their life, only to cut it if they become a widow.

The dictated mourning period is one year. But the widow cannot remarry until her hair has regrown.

***

***
"You can't cut it that short", says Bunny. "You'll look stupid."

"Stupid to who?"

He can't form an honest answer around the art of trying not to hurt my feelings. God knows he is sick of seeing me cry.

"Blokes, you mean? As in, no guy will want to date me with really short hair?"

"Well... yeah."

I'm guessing Bunny is going to be right. And that's awesome- half the point of this experiment.

If no one wants me, there is no temptation... and no chance of being hurt.

After yesterdays post I am so glad to see this one! You look AMAZING! And if you've worried about feeling feminine, get some seriously chunky necklaces. LOVE IT!

You look awesome! I used to have hair that short and you totally pull it off more than i did.
And also, dont worry about the guys not going for short hair - if my dad werent already married he'd be interested ( he's forever telling me to cut mine short again, it looked better that way ) and even my husband said he's curious to see me with short hair again. So there are some blokes out there who like it!

well, I hate to break it to you, but I actually think this haircut makes you look sizzling hot! not everyone could pull it off, but it really brings out your eyes. woo hoo!

Love It!!!!! Being a hairdresser myself, I am horrified that the hairdresser was so rude and out of line. Charging you a mens haircut OMG so bad.....If she was my employee she wouldn't have a job anymore!!!

As a pixie-wearer myself-you rock this 'do, girlfriend. I love it and am jealous - i need a haircut and don't have the necessary small loan to pay the woman who cuts my hair better than it's been cut in a long time.

Hair cut looks amazing!! I too cut my shoulder length hair super short with parts undercut a few weeks ago!!! As a hairdresser and salon owner, I am mortified by hairdresser number 2. Totally unprofessional!!!! But don't be offended by brin charged a men's cut

Belinda said...

Your rockin that hair do Lori! It really suits you. I love it!
I'm actually a little jealous. Firstly of you having the guts to do something like that ( I wish I did but don't) and secondly because I wish I could get away with a hair cut like that but don't have face shape for it.

I think you look spunky lady!! My hubby prefers women with short hair, he says there is nothing unfeminine about it and spunky women look like fighters (in life).
I think this style shows your strength. Good on you for taking a chance and claiming you!

I absolutely adore it! I wish I was brave enough to do that to my hair! And I think you can look very feminine with short hair :)

The haircut is lovely, Lori. A pixie cut (I think that's what they call it) is feminine, and it's one of the 'in' cuts of the season. Zoe over at Mamamia said so!

You're lucky to have petite features to pull it off well. Be confident, it looks great!

Jess Ray said...

You're ROCKING that look. You look amazing. It really suits you well.

Lori, you are beautiful. For the right one it won't be about hair length or history. We are all more than the sum of our parts.

Your hair is cool. I'm glad Bunny is back.

I think it really suits you, you easily pull it off, in a cute but strong way and I think it suits you even more when you smile . . .I think it's more feminine if women can do this and not worry about being a stereotyical girl with long hair etc . . .The short neck is ace!! Go for it, and YES change that horrible hairdresser . . .Glad she didn't spoil your experience x x x You look lovely, be happy!! x x x

OH how adorable do you look. So pretty! I looove it!
All that air on your neck gets really addicting :-)

I love it, actually. It suits you. I was going to say, it was a little Emma Watson (that girl pulls off the pixie look better than anyone in a loooooong time).

You look great. It's actually fresh.

There's nothing remotely blokish or 'dyke-ish) about it, by the way. It's honestly gorgeous. I prefer long hair to short, usually. But I liked it immediately, before I'd even started the Vlog.

i think it looks pretty.

It looks fricking awesome Lori. I think the makeup definitely keeps the look feminine, plus you have earrings too. It's really lovely - I REALLY like it.

And *spits virtual drink* at that second hairdresser! No words. No. Words.

And I think the photo of you at the bottom of the post is quite possibly one of the most beautiful photos I've seen in a very long while.

Lots of love dearie.

LOVE IT!! You look AWESOME.. It really, really suits you.

I love short hair & would love to work up the courage to cut it off again.

Actually, I told hubby I am getting Ellen DeGeneres style & colour for my 40th. I've got 6 years to psych myself up.... LOL

I hope this brings you change & some enjoyment. x

You are *totally* rocking the short hair.

I understand the whole "Gotta wear more makeup now" feeling. My hair is very short too, and I notice I feel a little more clunky/manly if I don't at LEAST have my eyes done. But when I feel good, DAMN do I feel good. Short hair is definitely freeing and (this is a totally general, somewhat snarky, not-scientifically based observation) you know the man who loves you with short hair will also love you with medium hair or long hair, whereas men who only like longer hair tend to be major ass-hats if you want to shorten it up. At least that has been my personal experience. :P Either way, you are beautiful! Enjoy the ease and fun of your new 'do. Wear dangly earrings if you like/have them. Bust out the chunky necklaces. Celebrate your lovely neck and shoulders! I haven't been able to bring myself to grow my hair out for the past 3 years, I like it short so much.

ALSO! If you decide to keep it short for a bit, before seeing a new hairdresser/salon call them up. Tell them you have short hair and ask if they have a stylist who LIKES/has experience doing feminine short cuts. You can usually get a sense of what you will be walking into by the receptionist's reaction. If you don't like what you hear, call another place. That is how I found my favorite short-hair stylist ever.

Traci said...

You look fantastic! I sooooo can't do short hair. I blame it on the fact that I look a lot like my male cousin so when I cut my hair short I see him in the mirror lol. You look great though. And you look so happy and....free. Screw what other people think about it being so short. It looks great and you obviously love it.

Missy said...

Totally agree with all the previous, Ms. Lori. It looks really good. I tried the pixie look when I was a teen and quickly realized that my ears are gigantic. No mas pixie cut for me. On the plus side, my hubby also has unusually "sticky out" (technical term) ears. Should we ever decide to have children, they may actually be able to fly.

your haircut looks fantastic. It suits your face so well! rock it girl!

Wow, you look beautiful - love it.

That is a completely fabulous haircut on you and how UBER CUTE!! I want to go cut off all my hair now. I cannot believe such a complete doofus of a hairdresser could manage to do such a foxy cut. It doesn't look blokey one bit, it looks fabulous.

Kim said...

Holy Shit! I freaking LOVE your hair. It's totally awesome! You wear it amazingly well -- better than Emma Watson. Seriously. Smokin' hot!

Shelley @ My Shoebox Life said...

I love it Lori. Hello cheekbones! If I had bone structure like that I would show it off too! x

Shellye said...

I LOVE IT! You're right, it is a bit of emancipated. Short hair requires little styling. I love how it compliments your gorgeous eye brows. You have a nice natural brow arch. Personally, I think it's very feminine. That hair dresser had no right to express her opinion. When you go to the hair dresser, they do what they want. Glad you stuck by your convictions and told her what you wanted.

Have you ever seen Rosemary's Baby? I'm not suggesting you see it, but the actress that plays Rosemary is a gorgeous blond, and halfway through the movie, she gets a pixie cut that is absolutely divine! I can't think of her name, but look up the cast members and pics from the film. She's drop dead gorgeous!

BTW, You're MUCH prettier than Emma Watson.

Library girl said...

That haircut totally suits! But you have probably gathered that from the huge amount of comments. You look sparkly! :)

Anonymous said...

Lori you look A - MAZE - ING !! Yes, sparkle, yes feminine. This really does suit you, everyone else has said it, but this whole look really goes with the Lori I know from being a reader "inner Lori". That first shot in the vlog from your hair ad, who is that girl? I'm so happy for you. I'm curious....what did the kids say? Angela
